Biochar a charcoal-like substance made by burning organic material improves plant growth by 50% to 70% when added to the soil. Along with its water-holding properties, it also can hold nutrients thus increasing food production and reducing fertilizer use, the material can be used in areas with depleted soils, limited organic resources.
